Low Carbon Eco House in West London

This is a diary of building a new build house in West London with an ecological bent. Trying to do something productive when ill in bed I spent time searching for sites which could give useful info on ecological products, services and the thoughts of others doing the same thing. There didn’t seem to be much out there so here’s my attempt at setting down my experience of the building process and as a resource for others out there trying to reduce their Carbon footprint.

Hi, Could you let me know how far down the line you are with your Eco House? I do some freelance writing for the Sunday Times Inside Out magazine and wonder if you have been approached by them already for a feature? I can put this forward if you haven’t & depending on how near completion you are. I hope all is going well.
    Kind regards, Jo Moulds

Hey Luke, I just saw you and your house on the Grand Designs programme; it looks great, now I’m showing everyone who comes to the house! It’s amazing what you’ve achieved, couldn’t really picture it when you described it, but now I get it. Only one question, where did you hide all the toys and baby equipment?

Great to hear from you. Toys were carefully tidied away before filming. Now of course they are back and all over the place. We still haven’t got round to putting up a single picture.
For some reason on Grand Designs Trade Secrets they said that there’s only one room per floor, above the ground floor. This is nonsense, confirmed by the fact the interview was in the conservatory room to the rear at second floor level. In the best journalistic traditions I guess they didn’t want the facts to get in the way of a good story!
Would be great to see you and the family next time you are in London.

    Hello Luke,

I’m a photographer and I’d like if possible to come round and take a few snaps of your eco friendly domesile? It won’t take long, and I’d be very interested to see how the whole thing works.
    Kind Regards

    Dan

    Hi Luke,
I’m a freelance photographer who’s interested in environmental issues. Just wondering if it would be possible to come round and take some pictures of your house?

    Hi Luke,

I saw your house in dwell yesterday. Fabulous! We, a family of 3 with 2 dogs, live in Toronto and are looking to find a site which allows to renovate/build new with the goal of a very modern, low carbon eco house. I have my eye on one site but it is very small and restrictive in some aspects so that everybody calls me crazy to even consider it. Would you mind mailing me a floor plan or even just a sketch which I could use to demonstrate that my vision could work?
